Re: Wat betekent jouw Avatar?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
NASA has taken "one small step" towards celebrating its history, while also promoting its next "giant leap."
The space agency on Friday (June 1) unveiled its logo for the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Program. From October 2018 through December 2022, NASA will mark a half century since astronauts to journeyed the moon.

NASA Releases Logo to Mark Apollo's 50th Anniversary.
From October 2018 through December 2022, NASA will mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Program that landed a dozen Americans on the moon between July 1969 and December 1972. NASA unveiled an official logo for use in observing these milestone anniversaries Friday at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
The unveiling was part of “NSO Pops: Space, the Next Frontier,” a National Symphony Orchestra celebration of NASA’s 60 years of accomplishment.
The Apollo 50th anniversary logo is available for download from the NASA Images and Video Library.
Created by NASA graphic artist Matthew Skeins, the logo offers a nod to the past with a few elements borrowed from the original program emblem, and a glimpse into the future with a graphic depiction of NASA’s vision for the next half-century of deep space exploration.
The arc through the word “Apollo” represents Earth’s limb, or horizon, as seen from a spacecraft. It serves as a reminder of how the first views of Earth from the Moon – one of NASA’s crowning achievements -- forever transformed the way we see ourselves as human beings. It also affirms NASA’s intention to continue pushing the boundaries of knowledge and delivering on the promise of American ingenuity and leadership in space.
The original Apollo emblem, adopted by the program in 1965, used drawings of the Moon and Earth linked by a double trajectory to portray President John F. Kennedy’s goal of “putting a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth” by the end of the 1960s. In a similar fashion, the Apollo 50th anniversary logo describes a contemporary goal, with images of the Moon and Mars filling the first and second “O”s, respectively, and the phrase “Next Giant Leap” beneath the word “Apollo.” Neil Armstrong declared his first step onto the lunar surface from the ladder of the Eagle lander on July 20, 1969, to be “one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” Today, NASA is working to return astronauts to the Moon to test technologies and techniques for the next giant leaps – challenging missions to Mars and other destinations in deep space.
The original emblem was a composite design derived from the ideas of NASA employees and contractor personnel. It featured the constellation Orion overlaid on a capital letter “A.” The constellation was positioned so that its three central stars formed the bar in the initial for “Apollo.” In the 50th anniversary logo, elements of the same star field recall the collective effort of some 400,000 people who worked on the Apollo Program – an 11-year series of 33 spaceflights including six that reached the lunar surface. The three central stars are repositioned diagonally beside “50” to emphasize the many sacrifices made in pursuit of the lunar goal -- especially the lives of Apollo 1 astronauts Virgil “Gus” Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee who perished in a capsule fire during a test on the launch pad in January 1967.
The star field, like the rest of the anniversary logo, is set against a blue nebula as an acknowledgement that human footprints on distant worlds is not too big a dream, and confirmation that NASA already is working toward that goal.

Re: Wat betekent jouw Avatar?
Iets met Thunderbirds and Space…………..
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
NASA and Peanuts Worldwide have signed a multi-year Space Act Agreement, building on a historic partnership that began during the Apollo missions of the 1960s, (CNW Group / Peanuts Worldwide)
Eighteen years after their creator died, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang are rising again to boost America’s space program.
It’s not exactly a new move for the comic strip characters inked by Charles M. Schulz until his death in 2000. Back in the 1960s, Schulz gave his OK for NASA to use Snoopy on the agency’s spaceflight safety materials for the Apollo program.
Schulz’s widow, Jeannie Schulz, said today in a news release that her husband “fully embraced” the collaboration with NASA.
“He was inspired to create a series of original comic strips detailing Snoopy’s fantastical journeys through space. Those strips remain among the most popular ones in circulation today,” she said.
In 1969, the Apollo 10 round-the-moon mission paid tribute to Peanuts by naming the command module “Charlie Brown” and the lunar module “Snoopy.” The cartoonist’s youngest son, Craig Schulz, said his father once told him that the tribute ranked as “the proudest moment in his career.”
The safety checklist for Apollo 12 featured a somewhat less official version of the Snoopy character, drawn by NASA engineer Ernie Reyes. (That checklist is also famous for its risque twists.)
NASA continues to give an award called the Silver Snoopy to recognize agency employees and contractors who have made outstanding contributions to safety or mission success in human spaceflight programs.
Last September, a Silver Snoopy went to Erica Raine, an engineer at Aerojet Rocketdyne’s facility in Redmond, Wash. She led a project to produce and test the auxiliary rocket engines for the service module on NASA’s Orion deep-space capsule.
NASA’s Silver Snoopy Award was created in 1968 with the blessing of Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Schulz. (NASA Photo)
The latest Peanuts partnership takes the form of a Space Act Agreement between NASA and Peanuts Worldwide, which is the keeper of Schulz’s comic-strip legacy.
With NASA’s involvement, Peanuts will work on all-new content starring Astronaut Snoopy, a STEM-based curriculum for students that lays out America’s deep-space exploration objectives, and materials that celebrate next year’s 50th anniversary of the Apollo 10 flight and the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Mark Geyer, director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, signed the multiyear Space Act Agreement on behalf of the space agency.
“NASA’s venturing to the moon and beyond with new missions that will push humanity’s reach farther into deep space,” Geyer said in NASA’s news release. “Engaging the public and sharing what we’re doing through partnerships with organizations that have a unique way of reaching people helps generate interest and curiosity about space in the next generation.”
More information about the Peanuts space effort will come out next week at San Diego’s Comic-Con International.

Re: Wat betekent jouw Avatar?

Quinta Regaleria in, Sintra Portugal.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Our nation’s first national monument, Devils Tower was established on this day in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. Unforgettable to all who see it, this ancient volcanic column rises above the rolling grasslands in eastern Wyoming like a sentinel. Northern Plains Tribes have lived and held ceremonies near this remarkable geologic formation for thousands of years, and today, many tribes continue to hold traditional ceremonies at the park. The rock tower was called “Bear’s Lodge” and “Bear’s Tipi” by the Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Crow and Lakota tribes. Made famous in the 1977 movie, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” the monument holds an undeniable attraction to many people.
