Because technology is reshaping human life, and nanotechnology is where technology is going. Today's nanoscale science and technology includes research and development on the cutting edge of a broad range of fields. The term "nanotechnology" has been applied wherever scientists and technologists are grappling with the fundamental building blocks of matter, atoms and molecules.

Nanoscale science and technology includes the frontiers of chemistry, materials, medicine, and computer hardware — the research that enables the continuing technology revolution.

Tomorrow's nanotechnology will be much more.
As nanoscale technologies advance, they will enable the development of molecular manufacturing, a more systematic and powerful nanotechnology using nanoscale machines to build large-scale, atomically precise products cleanly, at low cost. This sort of nanotechnology — the vision that inspired the field as a whole — will transform our physical technology from the bottom up, enabling digital control of the structure of matter.

How important will this be?
Its products will cure cancer and replace fossil fuels, yet those advances will, in retrospect, seem a minor part of the whole.

Any technology this powerful will bring both dangers and opportunities. The danger isn't that the factories will do something uncontrolled, but that hostile forces will use them to produce new, decisively powerful weapons. Only vigorous research can produce a stable defense. Thus, advanced nanotechnologies are as crucial to security as they are to medicine, economic productivity, and the future of Earth's environment.

Ik vind nanotechnologie op zich een geweldige techniek.
De mogelijkheden zijn eindeloos.
Minirobotjes in je lijf die aan de slag gaan zodra je bloedvaten vernauwen of verstopt dreigen te geraken. Of wonden repareren, je imuunsysteem verstevigen etc.
Allemaal geweldig.
Hartoperatie?
Welnee, 1 injectie en klaar is kees.

Helaas bevat het ook nadelen.
De mogelijkheden kunnen misbruikt worden.
Een injectie met minirobotjes die van buitenaf bestuurd kunnen worden.
Kan uiteraard ook als wapen gebruikt worden.

Nu kun je een potentieel gevaar nog afwenden, of in ieder geval proberen.
Als die robotjes al in je lijf zitten ben je in wezen al te laat.
En onder het mom van vooruitgang die dingen naar binnen brengen en in een later stadium misbruik maken is een kleine stap...

Jazeker deheerst, nanotechnology zou het einde van de wereld kunnen betekenen, als een professionele terroristische beweging bijvoorbeeld airborne nano virussen los laat, is het een kwestie van dagen, voordat we het loodje leggen, maar kijk nu eens naar bijvoorbeeld de atoombom, die is er, maar toch gaat het al jarenlang "goed" en vallen er geen door terroristen gestuurde nukes. Ik denk dat we zo ook naar nanotechnology moeten kijken.

Toch is het anders.
Denk aan hackers.
Als je van buiten bestuurbare robotjes in je lijf hebt, en die worden gehackt...

Dat is een goeie aflevering van de X-files ,maar ik snap wat je bedoeld.

Kunnen die nano-robotjes niet meer uit je lichaam dan?
